Products
The Seaglider Fabrication Center offers three primary products: complete Seagliders, Seaglider pilot training, and Seaglider refurbishment.
Complete Seaglider: All Seagliders come with a Seabird Electronics (SBE) conductivity and temperature sensor pair, as well as pressure sensor and altimeter transducer, forming the basic package for measuring seawater properties and stratification. In addition, a SBE model 43 oxygen sensor, and a WETlabs model BB2F optical backscatter and chlorophyll fluorometer are available with a standard glider. Other sensors additions may be made by the user.
Training: A full week of "pilot" training is important to safe and effective operation of a Seaglider and is requested for all new Seaglider purchasers. The training is held in Seattle at the time your first Seaglider is ready and includes a complete computer & modem base-station and Glider Information and Navigation Assistant (GINA) for a turnkey operation. You will learn to deploy, recover and fly your Seaglider in Puget Sound before it's shipped to your lab or institution.
Seaglider Refurbishment: This will consist of various levels of service for internal components of your Seaglider, including CT sensor calibrations, battery changes, O-ring replacement, etc.
Seaglider Operational Modes:
- Watch circle (virtual mooring)
- Profile/transit (1:3.5 to 1:1 glide slopes)
- Surface (position antenna mast for GPS/RF data telemetry)
- Variable sample rate for depth ranges
- Bathymetry map for surface to bottom profiling
Potential Seaglider Applications:
- Physical, chemical, and biological oceanography
- Physical oceanography
- Tactical oceanography
- Maritime reconnaissance
- Communication gateway
- Navigation aid
